Glycolic Acid Acne Treatment

Glycolic Acid Acne Treatment

Glycolic acid acne treatment can be found in many cosmetic products which include; acne gels, facial peels, and skin lotions. It is usually used at a concentration of around 10-70% and it can be used for both dry and oily skin.

It is an alpha-hydroxyl acid used in the treatment of acne and pimples, it removes wrinkles and make the skin glows. Glycolic acid acne treatment is usually recommended for those whose skin is showing signs of aging, fine lines, brown marks and dry spots. It is also recommended for those who are highly susceptible to acne infections.

Glycolic acid contain natural fruit acids which are - alpha hydroxyl acids or AHAs compounds. They help to rejuvenate the skin by promoting the shedding of worn out, sun-damaged surface skin cells. It is used for facial treatments and can be compared to lactic and citric acid treatment of facial disorders.

The elastic materials that hold the surface skin cells to each other loosens up when the acne infected skin is exposed to direct sunlight, the glycolic acid acne treatment when applied allows the dead skin to peel off. The skin underneath has a fresher, healthier look with a more even color and texture which replaces the dead acne infected skin.

The glycolic acid acne treatment is done between 15-20 minutes interval twice in a week. The recovery of acne treated skin with this process is superficial and rapid. Each treatment is done at a concentration of between 20-70% depending on the skin sensitivity and the therapy is first done by applying it gently on the face for 3-5 minutes, the solution should be washed off immediately after application (it pains a little when applied on the acne spots). The treated spots could turn pinky after few days but the use of moisturizing creams or make-ups can actually prevent such noticeable discolourations.
